Magnificent and ultra rare Art Deco Modernist Bauhaus lounge chair. Design by Frits Kuyken for Kuyken Dilbeek. Striking Dutch/Belgium design from 1936.
Original re-chromed tubular steel frame with re-upholstered premium black leather seat and back rest.
In 1936 the head office of Opel/General Motors Continental S.A. Albertdock in Antwerp decorated their reception hall with similar lounge chairs like this one. Unfortunately, however, the new GM interior did not last long, the GM factory closed in 1940 and in 1944 German V-bombs destroyed the entire factory!
This wonderful Art Deco Modernist Bauhaus lounge chair by Frits Kuyken for Kuyken Dilbeek is in very good original condition and has a beautiful patina.
Highly collectable and very hard to find! Frits Kuyken was the brother of the well known Amsterdamse school artist Marie Kuyken who was famous for her typical Amsterdamse School cloisonné art work.
A real eye-catcher in your home or office.
