Magnificent and rare Art Deco Amsterdam School credenza or sideboard. Design by Jac. van den Bosch for ’t Binnenhuis Amsterdam. Striking Dutch design from the 1920s. Opus 2171, executed in 1924. Solid mahogany with solid ebony Macassar handles and grips and lining. The rectangular rounded superstructure with rounded edges and carved corners above two glass sliding doors with grips,revealing two shelves with an open space for decanters,below which two drawers are situated above two panelled lined cupboard doors with a shaped column in between, the stepped and rounded frontlegs extending to the rectangular top. With branded artist’s monogram JvdB and original metal tag ’t Binnenhuis. This wonderful piece of furniture is one of the few known Amsterdam School designs by Jac. van den Bosch. Both the Drents Museum in Assen and the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam have an example of this sideboard in their collection! In very good condition with minor wear consistent with age and use,preserving a beautiful patina. Provenance: Sold at Christie’s Amsterdam 20th Century Decorative Arts Wednesday November 15 2000.
