Magnificent and rare Art Deco Modernist side chair.
Design by Laurens Groen.
Executed by H.H. de Klerk & Zoonen Rotterdam.
Striking Dutch design from the 1920s.
The unique birch frame rests on original black feet which
contrast with the birch.
The re-upholstered seat has the shape of a trapezoid and connects
visually with the re-upholstered triangular shaped part in the backrest.
This chair was part of the interior of the Amsterdamse School Temple Hall of
the Freemasons in Alkmaar the Netherlands.
Laurens Groen designed the building and the interior in 1924.
As can be seen in the historic photographs, this chair flanked the long sides of
the arched hall.
Several museums like the Centraal Museum in Utrecht the Netherlands have this wonderful chair in their collection.
In good condition with a beautiful patina.
