Magnificent and rare Arts & Crafts side chair. The design attributed to Pierre Cuypers. Striking Dutch design from the 1890s. Solid oak frame with brown faux leather upholstery. Petrus Josephus Hubertus ” Pierre” Cuypers was a Dutch architect. His name is most frequently associated with the Amsterdam Central Station (1881-1899) and the Rijksmuseum (1876-1885), both in Amsterdam. More representative for his oeuvre, however are numerous churches of which he designed more than hundred. Moreover, he restored many monuments. From 1870 onwards Pierre Cuypers style became more influenced by the native Gothic styles of the Netherlands as well as Gothic styles from other countries like Norway and Italy. In very good condition with minor wear consistent with age and use, preserving a beautiful patina.
