Magnificent and ultra rare Arts & Crafts the so-called Egypte chair. Design by Hendrik Petrus Berlage. Striking Dutch design from the 1890s. Solid oak frame with four legs with claws and the rattan seat is original! Hendrik Petrus Berlage was for this design inspired by an Egypt chair from 1300 BC in the Rijksmuseum voor Oudheden in Leiden, the Netherlands. This chair was part of six chairs for the Rotterdam family Hudig which Berlage designed in 1895 and only four chairs are known today Three chairs are in the following Dutch museums: Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. Museum Princessehof Leeuwarden. Museum de Fundatie Zwolle. Our chair was part of the Meentwijck Collection, the famous and largest collection of Dutch 20th Century Decorative and Applied Arts. We will ship this museum piece of furniture in a custom made wooden crate for safe transport when purchased by overseas buyers!
